Born and raised in Scotland Peter moved to London to enrol at the esteemed Royal College of Art where he was awarded, as the first ever Scottish student, Master of Art in Fashion Menswear.
In 1995 Peter was appointed Design Director for Kilgour on Savile Row, at the very heart of British tailoring. During his time at Kilgour the brand expanded into ready-to-wear and sold in retail stores off Savile Row for the first time in its history.
In 1998 Peter assumed the position of Head of Design at Dunhill, London one of the worlds major international luxury goods brands. During his time at Dunhill he was responsible for the design of the entire Global range of tailoring, outerwear and menswear accessories.
In 2001 Peter was appointed Design Director of Chester Barrie, Savile Row where he was responsible for managing the many luxury menswear collections the company created for Ralph Lauren, Mulberry, Turnbull & Asser, Ozwald Boateng, Spencer Hart, Huntsman, Old England (Paris) and Hardy Amies.
In 2005 the first Peter Johnston eponymous menswear collection was launched in conjunction with Onward Kashiyama, one of the largest clothing groups in the world, managing and distributing many luxury brands in Japan and throughout Asia (Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, Daks, Joseph and many more). The collection is distributed through the very prestigious Japanese department stores, Isetan where the brand continues to go from strength to strength.
In 2006 Peter Johnston opened his first directly owned store in Edinburgh, Scotland to sell his own label bespoke tailoring and luxury menswear accessories. In 2008 he announced the opening of his new flagship store on Queen Street, one of Edinburgh's most desirable streets. The PETER JOHNSTON brand and its flagship store represent Peter's extremely modern vision of luxury menswear today.
