Highland Jacket Peter Johnston

HIGHLAND KILT JACKETS

The perfect combination of tradition and style, PETER JOHNSTON bespoke Highland jackets are skilfully cut and sewn to bring together contemporary functionality and timeless design. Striking in appearance and beautifully fitting, they are the ideal finishing touch to any Highland dress outfit designed and crafted by PETER JOHNSTON bespoke tailoring services.

There are three types of Highland jacket:  the 'daywear', the 'semi-dress' and the 'full dress', and care needs to be paid to ensuring that the style chosen is appropriate for the event and for the Highland dress outfit worn. We offer several choices of jacket, in an extensive selection of the very best cloths including Barathea, Velvet, Tweed and Tartan.

The distinctive Regulation Kilt Doublet is the best choice for full-dress evening wear. The PETER JOHNSTON model has silk satin peaked blazer lapels, three buttoned cuffs, buttoned epaulettes and is worn open with low break point. Originally the Regulation Uniform Jacket of the Highland Regiments, the doublet has Inverness skirts/flaps at the front and back. Worn with a three-button waistcoat cut on the bias from the same cloth as the jacket or tartan, the Regulation Kilt Doublet offers an elegant look that can be further personalised with custom made silver jacket buttons. Beautifully engraved at our silversmith’s Edinburgh workshop, discrete initials or a memorable date can add a personal touch to your bespoke Highland dress outfit.

As an alternative, Argyll Barathea and Tweed Highland jackets complement our bespoke kilts as semi-dress and day wear. Made from medium weight Barathea wool with one waist button, the Argyll Barathea jacket is suitable for most day and wedding invitations. There are a range of options for personalising the jacket, including three cuff finishes and combining the jacket with an elegant five button matching waistcoat.  The Tweed jacket is best suited for casual day wear. PETER JOHNSTON offers a range of Scottish tweeds including the coveted Teviotex Ettrick Sporting Tweed. Woven in the Scottish Borders from Pure New Wool, this cloth is Teflon-coated, resulting in a practical yet fine looking cloth able to repel rain showers.

With his Scottish heritage and British bespoke tailoring background, Peter Johnston is ideally qualified to design and craft bespoke Highland Dress representing a modern representation of a great tradition.
