SPORRAN WITH SILVER CANTLE
Using time-honoured techniques and craftsmanship, PETER JOHNSTON Sporrans are hand made in Scotland – the ideal complement to our beautifully made hand sewn Scottish kilts. Sporrans are, first and foremost, practical items: money, keys, mobile phone – all can be stored in the sporran (and need to be, given the absence of any pockets on kilts). But they are also a deeply traditional and elegant means of completing your Highland Dress.
Sporrans come in three styles – the 'daywear', the 'semi-dress' and the 'full dress'. As would be expected with such an important part of Scottish tradition, care needs to be paid to ensuring that the style chosen is appropriate for the rest of the outfit. We specialize in full dress sporrans – desirable not only for their practicality but also for their exquisite design. Made from silver, leather and rabbit fur (from regulated sources), the full dress sporran is the most ornate of the three types and is intended to be worn with formal Highland dress.
Attention to detail is everything. Combining fine materials with the highest levels of Scottish design and craftsmanship, PETER JOHNSTON’s silversmith labours in our Edinburgh workshop to create sporrans handsomely decorated with silver mountings engraved with exclusive designs including our distinctive and emblematic Stag’s Head. Each sporran is furnished with a stylish silver and leather combination Sporran strap, attached to the rear of the Sporran with silver rings threaded through the kilt sporran loops. The leather rear strap and buckle adjusts the hang, which should be high on the front apron.
As with every aspect of our bespoke tailoring and kilt making services, we welcome special commissions to customise your Sporran and Cantle. Peter Johnston will be happy to produce unique design drawings to meet your wishes. For further information, advice or assistance, please contact us here.
KILT PIN
A simple but exquisitely crafted silver kilt pin is a classic and stylish accessory to complement a quality hand sewn kilt. An integral part of the Highland Dress, it is generally worn as a decorative accessory fastened through the top apron, four inches from the bottom and three inches from the side fringe.
Our hand crafted silver kilt pins are not only made in Scotland to the highest level of craftsmanship but are beautifully designed for the discerning gentleman who appreciates traditional simplicity in accessorising an effortlessly refined personal style.
As with every aspect of our bespoke tailoring and kilt making services, we welcome special commissions to customise your Kilt Pin. Peter Johnston will be happy to produce unique design drawings to meet your wishes, for crafting in our silversmith’s Edinburgh workshop. WAIST PLATE
While the Highland dress waist plate and leather belt is not strictly required with a bespoke hand made kilt (since the kilt will be made to fit and will stay up on its own), it allows the wearer to personalise each outfit to their own style. And since a waist plate can be anything from exquisitely simple, unadorned, silver, to highly elaborate custom designs, it is one more way to express yourself.
Worn with semi-formal or daywear Highland dress, PETER JOHNSTON silver waist plates are skilfully hand crafted in Scotland.
