FORMAL
Whether a regular event or a once a year experience, ‘black tie’ occasions demand an elegant, well cut evening suit. The classic white- and black-tie combination by Peter Johnston is perfect for any such occasion.
Made from black barathea or the blacker-than-black magic of midnight blue wool worsted, Peter’s black- and white- tie outfits are cut as a single or double breasted jacket and trouser two piece, with peak or notch lapel and standard or shawl collar with silk facing.
For those wanting a subtly different yet still classic style, a velvet smoking jacket can be paired with the formal trouser. As an alternative to the formal trouser, trews are correct for evening wear. We cut a military style trew with a high fishtail back that sits high on the waist, designed to be worn with braces, and no side seam.
Morning coat and formal dress trouser, worn by our most style-conscious clients to weddings and grand formal occasions, are cut in the traditional style with the jacket back falling to an inch below the bend of the knee. The sides of the jacket curve very slightly over the hip and the jacket front is left unbuttoned, finishing about the hipbone. The dress trouser requires a longer than usual rise and brace top finish so that it sits neatly under the high cut tailcoat or the one-button single-breasted dinner suit jacket.
