Casual and semi-formal occasions require comfortable yet stylish clothes. Peter Johnston’s bespoke casual wear combines the classic with the subtly luxurious. Perfect for smart-casual weekends or business casual workdays, they sit somewhere between the suit and leisurewear.

Made to the same high specification as our business tailoring, sports jackets and blazers make a stylish addition to a client’s wardrobe. A well-chosen collection is also extremely versatile – a range of outfits can be created from just two or three jackets per season in different cloth weights and patterns, with a selection of plain coloured odd trousers made from flannels, corduroys, high twist superfine woollens, linens and cottons.

Sports jackets can be made in cashmere, tweed, wool and cheviot for autumn and winter wear. For spring and summer, light cashmere, silk and cashmere blends, thin worsted or silk and linen mixtures are more appropriate.  The sports jacket is at its smartest when teamed with flannel trousers, and at its most casual with corduroy and moleskin.

The cardigan jacket is another option.  It’s a jacket you just don't need to think about – throw it on and you're off. It's a softer look than business tailoring, with no rope sleeve head and with a more relaxed shirt sleeve. Add a lightweight cloth and you have an elegant, luxurious, go anywhere jacket that combines timeless design with the comfort of a cardigan.
A well cut blazer that emphasizes shape, with wider lapels and a tapered waist, is a great way to combine a classic style and a more modern look.  The blazer’s formality can be influenced by simple changes in detailing and by accessorising. Its character comes from the contrast of the dark blue cloth and the brass buttons, without which the blazer would be more of a blue jacket.  The classic blazer is tailored in worsted serge, but alternatives include flannel, hopsack, pure wool worsteds and cashmere. Grey flannel trousers are still regarded as the best companion for the navy blue blazer, but good alternatives are high twist woollens, corduroys and cottons.

To meet clients’ requests for lightweight business-casual clothing, we offer the half lined jacket. These are 20% lighter than a standard tailored jacket, but still maintain the same attributes of our formal business suits: luxurious cloth, meticulous hand sewing and an elegant cut.
