A bespoke suit presents a powerful image, of professionalism, competence and authority.
If properly cared for, a bespoke suit will be as long lived as it is timeless. Business suits should ideally be worn only once a week. We recommend that a wardrobe should comprise five suits for Autumn/Winter and five for Spring/Summer.
Most choose the two-piece suit – single or double-breasted, with personal touches reflected in the number of buttons, the positioning of the back vent and the choice of trousers with or without turn-ups. Whatever style is preferred, the quality and elegance of the cut, colour and fabric will ensure your suit graces any occasion.
Heavier weight suits – 13oz to 16oz 100% pure wool worsted and flannels – can be worn in two or three pieces, often double breasted. Classic cloth choices include blue or grey ground Pinstripe, Herringbone, Bird’s Eyes, Prince of Wales Check, Charcoal Grey flannel and plain Navy. These suits are ideal for the coldest days, hold their shape superbly and, if properly cared for, are supremely long lasting.
Medium weight cloths of 10oz to 12oz are perfect in moderate climates for those who like to wear the same weight of fabric all year round. Ideal worn as a two piece single breasted or double breasted, cloth of this weight drapes beautifully when expertly cut and comes in a very wide range of designs. Pure new wool is the best suiting fabric for durability and crease resistance.
Light weight suits are cut from 7oz to 9oz cloths for warm spring and summer wear, generally single breasted and in lighter colours in keeping with the season. Cotton and linen are comfortable, high twist fine wool has the best drape. Lightweight woollen fabrics such as ‘Super 100’s’ are light, airy and crease resistant, and perfect for summer wear. Lightweight cashmeres are similarly ideal for summer tailoring, extremely soft but still pleasantly cool to wear.
As well as protecting your and your suit from the weather, a quality overcoat made in a luxurious, lighter weight cloth can be a beautiful expression of style. A black, navy or charcoal grey overcoat in 16oz to 26oz wool worsted, pure cashmere and cashmere/wool mixes is perfect to wear over winter suits. So too is a camel or light brown overcoat with optional velvet collar. Select from Crombie, Chesterfield, British Warm and Polo styles.
